cooling system

At Oil Changers we check and advise on the fluid level of the Cooling System with our Full Service Oil Change when accessible and available. Many of today’s engines are liquid or “water” cooled. The main reason for this is that the heat created by the engine is hot enough to destroy the engine without the assistance of a Cooling System. Although it can be referred to as a “water” cooled system, this description is inaccurate since Coolant or Anti-Freeze is mixed with water to help prevent corrosion or damage to the Cooling System or Engine.

The Cooling System works best when the Coolant/Anti-Freeze is mixed with water in the recommended ratio set by the vehicle manufacturer. The fluid level is checked by visual inspection when possible or by removing the cap on a non-pressurized Cooling System Reservoir, which many times is separate from the radiator. We can inspect the pressurized side of the Cooling System at your request when the system is deemed safe. An overheating vehicle can cause serious injuries so please let us know if you are having any issues with your vehicle overheating prior to this inspection.

The fluid level inside of the Cooling System should be checked as part of most manufacturers’ recommended inspection schedule. The fluid should be topped off with the approved fluid if the fluid is not with in the correct operating range. This fluid also is generally required for scheduled replacement and you should change this fluid regularly based on the recommendations/requirements of your vehicle manufacturer.

Fluid Exchange:

At Oil Changers we offer a Fluid Exchange of the Cooling System fluid or Coolant/Anti-Freeze to help prolong the life of seals and other key components. Like other fluids in your vehicle the Coolant fluid breaks down because of extreme temperature, usage & time resulting in a fluid that isn’t performing to the designed specifications.
